FAQ

What does an AHA Exfoliating Serum do?

An AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) exfoliant serum, especially one containing glycolic acid and Australian Finger Lime AHAs, is an effective skincare treatment that gently removes dead skin cells and promotes skin renewal. Due to its small molecular size, glycolic acid penetrates deeply into the skin, making it one of the most potent AHAs available. When combined with the natural exfoliating properties of Australian Finger Lime, this serum delivers a powerful blend of skin-smoothing benefits.

Glycolic acid works by breaking down the bonds that hold dead skin cells together on the skin's surface. This process removes the dead cells, revealing a brighter, fresher complexion underneath. It also helps improve uneven skin tone and reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation, as the increased cell turnover leads to a more radiant and even skin surface.

The inclusion of Australian Finger Lime, rich in natural AHAs, enhances this exfoliation, offering a gentle yet effective way to rejuvenate the skin. This combination helps improve the skin's texture, making it smoother while stimulating collagen production and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Over time, this promotes firmer, more youthful skin.

In addition to these benefits, using an AHA exfoliant serum helps other skincare products work more effectively. By removing the layer of dead skin cells, the serum allows serums, moisturizers, and treatments to penetrate deeper, maximizing their absorption and effectiveness.

What is difference between a serum exfoliant versus a traditional face scrub?

The key difference between a serum exfoliant and a traditional face scrub lies in how they exfoliate the skin. A exfoliating serum, typically containing chemical exfoliants like AHAs or BHAs, works by gently dissolving dead skin cells and encouraging cell turnover at a deeper level. In contrast, a traditional face scrub uses physical exfoliants, such as beads or granules, to slough off dead skin cells manually.

A serum exfoliant is preferable for several reasons. First, it's much less abrasive than a face scrub. Scrubs can sometimes cause microtears in the skin, especially if used too aggressively, which can lead to irritation or even damage over time. An exfoliant serum, on the other hand, is applied smoothly and evenly across the skin, offering a gentler and more controlled exfoliation.

Another advantage of serum exfoliants is their ability to provide a more consistent and even exfoliation. Because they work chemically rather than physically, they exfoliate the skin uniformly, leading to a more refined and even texture. This consistent and even exfoliation reassures you that your skin is being treated evenly, making them especially beneficial for improving skin tone and addressing concerns like uneven texture, fine lines, or hyperpigmentation.

Overall, an exfoliant serum is a gentler, more effective choice for those seeking smoother, brighter, and healthier-looking skin without the abrasiveness of a traditional scrub.

How often should I use exfoliating serums?

Every skin is different, depending on your type we recommend use this product 1-3 times per week. For normal and sensitive skin types, 1-2 times per week is ideal, while those with oily or combination skin may benefit from 2-3 times per week.

Rule of thumb: Your frequency should cease whenever you feel a slight tingle. If you feel a slight tingle after the first day than your frequency is once per week.

Please note that a tingling sensation is not an indicator of the serum's efficacy and should not be sought after. Instead, it signifies your skin's sensitivity to the product.

Why do we exfoliate our skin?

Did you know that our skin naturally sheds dead cells through a process called 'desquamation'? So, why do we still need to exfoliate manually? Click the link to our blog to discover the essential reasons behind exfoliation and how it benefits your skin beyond what nature already provides.

When should I use this product?

You can use an AHA both in the morning and at night, we recommend incorporating your AHA into your evening routine. While you sleep, your skin undergoes a natural renewal process, and using an AHA at night helps enhance this renewal by promoting exfoliation and cell turnover. If you choose to use an AHA in the morning, it’s important to note that it can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. In this case, always follow up with SPF to protect your skin from UV damage and prevent any irritation or hyperpigmentation caused by sun exposure.
